What is chirodectus maculatus?

Chirodectus maculatus is a species of spider in the family Theridiidae commonly known as the spotted comb-footed spider. They are found across the United States and Mexico, and are known for their distinctive markings – black spots on a white to light yellow background, particularly on their abdomen. They are usually about half an inch in size. Like other spiders in the Theridiidae family, Chirodectus maculatus are generally found in webs that are built near the ground in and around grass, bushes, and fences. They are avid predators and typically feed on small insects and other spiders. While their venom can cause reactions in humans, they are not considered to be harmful to humans.
